Spindle simplicity

For Denmark-based Fladder, the focus at this year's MACH event will be a range of deburring equipment such as the Fladder AUT.

The company will also unveil a new spindle used extensively in its equipment which, according to Fladder, has enabled greater flexibility in terms of the brushing process which in turn leads to more aggressive and more effective deburring. The new spindles – manufactured under license as ‘Lock-It' – are equipped with elastic O-ring cords which are the length of the spindle itself. The profile of the spindle and cords allow tools, such as an abrasive cylinder, to turn freely on the spindle and then be locked by a short turn in the opposite direction. When the abrasive cylinder is turned to the left, the elastic cord is forced into a groove in the spindle, allowing the cylinder to slide onto the spindle. When the cylinder is in position, it is locked by a short turn to the right and the elastic cord is force upwards from the groove, locking the cylinder in the desired position Fladder says that this arrangement saves time changing tools when compared to conventional spindles which often need flanges and screws for fixing tools on the spindle. When mounting conventionally, the abrasive tool is fixed by means of an axial pressure between the end flanges. With Lock-It, the abrasive tool is fixed radially along the spindle length by means of three elastic cords which also centre the tool. Tool exchange on Lock-It spindles is a simple process. The spindle is locked and the tool can be turned and removed without the use of additional tools. Fladder
