TEC responds to announced AS9100:2016 publication dates

The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) has announced that the new AS 9100:2016 standards will be published from October to December this year. Aerospace and defence quality specialist TEC Transnational has stressed that though this is six months behind schedule, the implementation remains the same.

This squeezes the timeframe for aerospace companies to prepare for these significant changes and TEC has developed a suite of courses to address this. These include a practical one day ‘Heads-up for AS 9100:2016’ course which explains how to implement the new and revised requirements; including the major changes imposed by the new ISO 9001:2015 standard which is embedded into the AS 9100:2016 series of standards.

In addition, TEC’s IRCA-certified two day ‘ISO 9001:2015 Auditor Transition Training course based on AS 9100:2016’ provides existing IRCA-certified lead auditors (and principal auditors) with the knowledge and skills to develop new process-based auditing skills and add more value to organisations.

By doing so, IRCA certificated auditors can make sure they are up-to-date and can audit against the new standards earlier. This course also addresses the requirements for auditing the AS 9100:2016 series of aerospace and defence standards as well as ISO 9001:2015.

The IAQG publication dates for the new series of standards in the three sectors (American, European and Asian) are: AS/EN9100:2016 – October 2016; AS/EN9110:2016 – November 2016; AS/EN9120:2016 – December 2016. The standard specifying requirements for the third party certification audit process (AS/EN9101:2016) will also be published in November 2016.

While these publication dates have changed, the certification-related dates remain the same:

  • 15th June 2017: All future audits must be to the AS/EN9100/9110/9120:2016 standards using AS/EN9101:2016 third party audit process

  • 15th September 2018: All transitions must be complete. From this date, existing AS/EN9100/9110/9120:2009 certificates will no longer be valid
