WNT will join forces with Open Mind, DMG Mori, Training 2000 and UCLAN, to deliver a series of advanced machining strategy days aimed at the aerospace sector in the North West of England.

The strategy days will be taking place at Training 2000’s Manufacturing and Automation Centre (AMAC) in Blackburn.

Following on from similar days related to milling, this series of events will take place on the 26th and 27th February, but with a specific focus on the benefits that high-performance circular segment milling can bring to the machining of structural and aerofoil components in the aerospace sector.

Delegates to the events, which will run in the morning and afternoon on each day, will see first-hand how the combination of WNT’s 3D Finish (tapered conical barrel tools) solid carbide milling tools and Open Mind’s hyperMILL MAXX Machining CAD CAM software can deliver significant cycle time savings (up to 90%), as well as the improvements in surface quality that can be achieved.

Each two-hour session will consist of brief presentations from WNT, Open Mind, DMG Mori and Training 2000, followed by a demonstration of the capabilities of the 3D Finish tools and Open Mind’s milling strategy on Training 2000’s DMU 75 monoBlock 5-axis machining centre.

The test piece replicates typical challenges faced by the aerospace sector, these being deep pockets, such as those found on aero-structures and freeform profiles typical of turbine blades.

To maximise the benefit for delegates, places are limited for each of the four free to attend sessions (AM or PM) – therefore pre-registration is essential. Those interested in attending can register by visiting www.training2000.co.uk/events.

“As a technology partner of Training 2000, its excellent AMAC facility located in the heart of the north west’s aerospace cluster is an ideal venue for these aerospace milling productivity days. The response to our previous events has been excellent, with many delegates recognising the immediate impact that this milling strategy can have on their machining performance,” said Tony Pennington, managing director, Ceratizit WNT.
