The long view

Designed specifically for 5-axis applications, a series of toolholding solutions from Schunk Intec aims to improve productivity and minimise machine downtime.

Among the new additions is the long, slim Tendo SVL hydro expansion extension providing an extension length of 150mm or 200mm that doesn't require any auxiliary equipment and converts almost any precision toolholder into a flexible specialist for narrow spaces - independentl of the spindle interface.

Its precise run out of 0.003mm and excellent vibration dampening and internal coolant supply ensure good machining results and long tool service life. A single Tendo extension can be fitted with a variety of standard tools, making expensive specialist tools or shrink systems unnecessary.

Also designed for optimised interference contours, the Tribos SVL is a 100mm, 150mm or 200mm long toolholder extension as standard (specials upon request), that can be combined with various toolholders. The one piece, high precision extension covers all toolholder diameters from 0.3mm to 5mm in 0.1mm increments and 6mm to 20mm in 2mm increments, and has a true running and repeat accuracy of 0.003mm.

Excellent machining and results are possible when either type of SVL is combined. Clamping several extensions together, experienced users achieve extreme extended lengths by clamping several extensions together whilst maintaining minimal run out at the cutting tool.

The Tendo LS is somewhat bulkier but offers more stability when compared to other hydraulic toolholders. The Tendo hydraulic expansion toolholders have a 25° chuck chamfer that is enough to reduce the interference contour by 40%. In addition, the L1 dimension of the precision toolholder is 150mm or 200mm. The long version achieves true running of 0.003mm at 2.5 x D from the front of the toolholder.

With the Tendo E hydraulic expansion toolholder, Schunk provides affordable entry into the world of high precision hydraulic expansion technology. The Tendo E is offered for the interfaces SK 40 + 50, JIS-BT 40 + 50 and HSK-A 63. The clamping diameter is uniformly 32mm for SK 50 and BT 50 and uniformly 20mm for SK 40, BT 40 and HSK-A 63. Smaller shank diameters can be clamped via intermediate sleeves.
