The right decision

Despite booking its stand late, Bystronic's managing director David Larcombe is singing the show's praises following a particularly successful show for the sheetmetal equipment specialist.

“May was an unusually good month for order intake,” he revealed. “This gave us a warm feeling prior to the show that we had made the correct decision.”

The Coventry-based company reduced its exhibition space slightly on 2008 but the stand remained large enough to showcase its three main disciplines of laser, waterjet and pressbraking. The Byspeed was demonstrated cutting 600 holes per minute and, coupled with the new automatic nozzle changer drew attention from existing customers.

The ‘New to Mach' ByJet Classic Waterjet cutting system was also well received with a number of enquiries for the economically priced twin head machine.

Mr Larcombe continued: “Whilst it's true that both visitor numbers and actual enquiry numbers were down from 2008, MACH 2010 was probably the most encouraging MACH exhibition in memory for Bystronic simply because the interest levels and quality of enquiries far exceeded our expectations. We received in excess of 260 enquiries during the show.”

A number of machines were sold from the stand. A Byspeed 3015 with 4.4kW laser source and nozzle changer and a Beyeler Xpert pressbrake with 9-axis, 150 tons and 3,100 mm bending length was sold to AJ Wells – an Isle of Wight-based customer involved in the manufacture of domestic heating systems. This was an order received just before the show. Bystronic also received an order from ICEE managed services of Waterlooville, Hampshire for a Beyeler Xpert with 150 ton capacity.

According to Mr Larcombe, the highlight of the show was an existing customer discussing a new requirement and leaving the stand having shaken hands on an order – completely out of the blue.
