Think big

The Haas UMC-1000 is an ideal choice for shops wanting an easy-to-use 5-axis solution to handle larger parts.

It offers the same proven performance as the UMC-750, but with larger travels and a bigger platter, making it a cost-effective solution for 3+2 and simultaneous 5-axis machining of large parts.

The 5-axis UMC-1000 features a 40-taper spindle with 1,016 x 635 x 635mm travels and an integrated dual-axis trunnion table. The machine is equipped with a 10,000rpm inline direct drive spindle and comes with a servo-driven 50+1 side mount toolchanger.

The UMC’s dual-axis trunnion table positions parts to nearly any angle for five-sided (3+2) machining or provides full simultaneous 5-axis motion for contouring and complex machining. The trunnion offers +35°/-110° of tilt and 360° of rotation for excellent tool clearance and large part capacity. Its 635mm platter features standard T-slots and a precision pilot bore for fixturing versatility.

The UMC-1000’s inline direct drive spindle is powered by a 22.4kW (30hp) vector drive system, yielding 122Nm of cutting torque. The Haas inline system couples the spindle directly to the motor to reduce heat, increase power transmission, and provide high quality surface finishes.

The Haas WIPS (Wireless Intuitive Probing System) is fitted as standard. Easy on-screen directions guide users through the process. Experienced operators have access to the full power and capabilities of custom probe routines.

Dynamic work offsets (DWO) and tool centre point control (TCPC) simplify varying part set-ups in both 3+2 axis machining and 5-axis simultaneous machining, by allowing users to program the component relative to a work location of their choice, rather than relative to the intersection of the rotary axes. This makes it easier for users to set-up the machine, saving valuable time eliminating multiple visits back to the CAM system to adjust the component location.

In addition to the standard model, Haas has also introduced a Super Speed version – the UMC-1000SS – with 30.5m/minute rapids and an integrated high-speed, dual-axis trunnion table. This faster machine is equipped with a 15,000rpm inline direct drive spindle.

The UMC-1000SS’s high-speed, trunnion table offers 170°/second feed rates to quickly position parts for five-sided (3+2) or full simultaneous 5-axis motion for contouring and complex machining.

Both machines are equipped with through-spindle coolant, benefitting from an auxiliary coolant filter and a programable coolant nozzle. A heavy-duty steel, belt-type chip conveyor removes swarf from the machine quickly, and discharges it with minimal coolant carryout. The conveyor can be activated via M-code, or directly from the control pendant, and there are settings to control the interval and duration of the conveyor cycle for automatic operation. Smart-sensing technology automatically reverses the conveyor if a jam occurs.

The Haas Next Generation Control has the ability to send email and SMS text notifications to multiple contacts, about the operating status of the machine. In addition, 1GB of memory allows storage of a large number of programs, eliminating the need for an external device to be used to FNC or DNC the program.

A host of other features are fitted as standard, including High-Speed Machining, which allows faster feedrates and more complex toolpaths without hesitation or starving the machine. HSM lets the UMC series machines cut at maximum feed rate, where possible, while slowing just enough where necessary to make sure complex part geometry is maintained.
