Tough act to follow

TW Metals, a global metals stockholding and distribution group with sites in Birmingham and Southampton, serves safety critical markets such as nuclear, oil and gas and aerospace with specialist steels and aluminium alloys.

As part of an ongoing investment programme, the company has recently in two Imet Xtech 410 bandsaws from Addison Saws as part of its regular plant and equipment upgrade scheme.

The saws embrace the latest metalcutting technology and are both cost-effective and productive. Technology advances have not only increased cutting feeds and speeds, but also reduced operational vibration, enabling the machines to deliver higher productivity levels with extended blade life.

Martin Reaney, warehouse and facilities director at TW Metals (UK) says: “As a global metals stockholding group, the quality of our cut metals and service record is paramount to our brand reputation.”

Working closely with their distributor Sawtec in Southampton, Addison Saws recently specified and supplied the two new Xtech 410 bandsaws – one in each of our UK facilities. Addison has delivered a quality solution that has proven to match the best on the market – at a much lower capital investment.”

He continues: “In terms of performance, the machines have exceeded our expectations particularly with their high operational efficiencies and output levels. Most especially pleasing however, is their ability to provide us with fast and effective cutting of tougher, more exotic and higher value stainless steels and nickel alloys, as well as superalloys such as Inconel and titanium, whilst maintaining good blade life. Our operators are particularly impressed with the machines' ease of use and user friendliness.”

The saws feature pre-programmed automatic cutting parameters set in a simple to operate control panel which stores over 60 different material specifications, including cutting and blade speeds.

The benefits are further enhanced through variable feed rate and blade speed systems which can significantly reduce cutting times. Addison Saws reports that here, standard saw blade cutting times can be reduced by up to 30%, and with TCT saws blades, by 60%.

The Xtech range incorporates double bearings on both the driven and idle blade wheels, aiding stability, even blade power distribution and enabling higher band tensioning. Front and back blade vice supports, which separate on saw head returns, provide clearance for high production TCT sawing.
