WNT (UK) has entered into a title sponsorship agreement with Sam Burman, an upcoming competitor in the British 125cc Grand Prix Championship.

The team will race under the name of WNT/Phil Burman Racing.

Ms Burman, who served her apprenticeship at the Scunthorpe Steel Works and now works in the machine shop, was first introduced to WNT towards the end of 2011 when the Sheffield-based cutting tool company made its demonstration area available to Sam to machine parts for her racing bike. “At first we were happy, along with our machine tool partner XYZ Machine Tools, to let Sam make use of the machines and tools in our demonstration area. However, as we got to know her we realised that she had a drive and determination to succeed and saw the opportunity to expand our support for her racing endeavours,” said Tony Pennington, managing director, WNT (UK).

The new arrangement will see WNT inject some cash into Ms Burman's 2012 racing season with WNT taking title sponsorship of the team run by her father Phil Burman. Ms Burman made the move to the British Championship in 2011 and scored some pretty impressive points scoring finishes in a highly competitive championship. For 2012, with the support of WNT, Sam is hoping to push on and challenge for the championship.

“Sam is a great example to all young people as she is determined to succeed in everything she does,” Mr Pennington added. “While it may not be politically correct to say it, she has entered two environments, engineering and motorcycle racing, that are very much male dominated and has achieved success in both. That said, she is not resting on her laurels and her desire to go on and do even better is part of the reason why WNT is happy to support her in 2012.”
