Training boost

The CNC Training Academy, part of Mills CNC, and CEME have organised a series of free CNC training seminars.

The CNC Training Academy, part of Mills CNC, and CEME (Centre for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence) have organised a series of Free CNC Programmer Information Seminars and follow-on discounted turning and milling training courses aimed at manufacturers in the south east of England.

The seminars and courses, all taking place at CEME's facility in Rainham, Essex, are part of a new joint initiative between both organisations designed to help precision manufacturing companies in the region get the most and the best from their CNC machine tools and to demonstrate the critical and positive contribution that training can make to increasing manufacturers' productivity, flexibility and competitiveness.

10th May: free CNC Programmer Information Seminars
7-8 June: two Fanuc CNC programmer turning course
9-10 June: two day Fanuc CNC programmer milling course

Seminar Programme

“Manufacturers who want or need to train up their staff to be able to handle higher value and often more complex work will benefit from attending the seminars as will machine tool operators looking to develop their skills and improve their career prospects,” says Michelle Manning, head of programmes at CEME.
The 90 minute seminars, delivered by Jeff Hart, the CNC Training Academy's manager will provide an overview of CNC machine tools, including their use and their application in today's increasingly global manufacturing sectors and industries. Specific seminar topics include:

• Different types of CNC machine tools and machine tool technologies
• The language and terminologies used in CNC machining
• A CNC machine tool's control system – (what it does and how it's controlled)
• The differences between machine tool operation and programming
• An overview of the main CNC control systems, including Fanuc, Heidenhain and Siemens
• Basic CNC programming through to advanced programming for multi-axis CNC machine tools
• The type of jobs and careers open and available to qualified CNC programmers

The two information seminars will take place on the same day on Tuesday 10th May at CEME's facility in Rainham, Essex. The first seminar (10am - 11.30am) will be repeated at 2pm.

At the end of each seminar attendees will be given a tour of CEME and will be able to see and experience its excellent training facilities, learning resources and teaching equipment.

It is intended that the seminars act as a catalyst for attendees to sign themselves up for the subsequent two day Fanuc turning and two day milling CNC Programmer Training Courses that are being held at CEME on 7- 8 June and 9-10 June respectively. Both courses are heavily subsidised and course places are limited to 20 places per course.

Fanuc CNC Programmer Training (turning) content

• General layout of CNC machine, control system and keyboard.
• Understanding machine tool axis configurations
• Description and use of G-Codes in programming
• Understanding M-Codes and T-Codes
• Using multi-repetitive cycles
• Making basic CNC programmes

Fanuc CNC Programmer Training (milling) content • General layout of CNC machine, control system and keyboard.
• X-, Y- and Z-axis configuration
• Explanation of G-Codes and M-Codes used in programming
• Using canned cycles
• Basic CNC programming

“The seminar and training course initiative provide a unique opportunity for South East manufacturers to find out and understand more how an investment in CNC Programmer Training can help them and their staff improve their performance,” Jeff Hart explains.

“The turning and milling courses on offer during June have been run from our Leamington facility for many months now – and have been well received.”
