Figures announced this week from the Confederation of British Industry reveal that decline in the UK manufacturing output has eased slightly in the past three months and modest growth is expected in the three months ahead.

While in the summer the performance of British exporting had been disappointing, the latest quarterly industry trends survey has revealed that the weakness of sterling is helping export competitiveness.
Cheltenham-based honing machine specialist, Arthur Sanders certainly found this to be the case following the recent release of figures for the first year of trading. A quarter of all sales were exports and new markets have been found in places as distant as Russia, Taiwan, India and Bulgaria.

Arthur Sanders launched in 2008 and is owned by honing specialists David Arthur and Charles Sanders who have a combined honing knowledge spanning over five decades. Faced with the challenge of how to survive a brutal recession they realised there was an opportunity in the used honing machine market.

Mr Sanders commented: “It was apparent that there was a need to offer reconditioned honing machinery with the same service and advice you would expect from a new purchase. We offer a turnkey package that can include tooling, consumables, delivery, installation, commissioning and training.

“Recovery from the downturn is expected to be protracted,” he continued, “and with the tight flow of credit to manufacturers remaining a concern and companies unable to obtain funding to meet orders, the opportunity to save costs on the purchase of equipment for a manufacturer could be the answer to the problem of how to satisfy growing order books.”

Current stock, which can be viewed online, includes hand hones, beam stokers, cylinder kings and vertical and horizontal tube hones from manufacturers such as Delapena, Sunnen and Nagel.
All can be demonstrated under power and trials can also be undertaken on customer workpieces. Arthur Sanders offers training at the customer's premises and can supply machines with tooling and consumables.
