Tungaloy UK opens its doors

Global tooling manufacturer the Tungaloy Corporation has opened a new facility in Birmingham to service the UK marketplace.

The Japanese company has been successfully producing high specification cutting tools, indexable inserts, and additional industrial products for over 70 years.

Since becoming a member of the IMC Group of companies in 2008, the company has successfully progressed on a strategy to service all global markets, of which the UK is the latest subsidiary to open its doors for business. To accommodate its exponential growth, the company has several manufacturing plants in Japan and is making additional investments in new production equipment. All manufacturing sites use manufacturing processes and equipment that supply over 20 global subsidiaries with high quality cutting tools.

Tungaloy says it has identified, and will continue to undertake a number of initiatives to reduce the burden on the environment. This strategy is reflected in the development of environmentally friendly products as well as in its commitment to green procurement and waste management.

The UK facility in Bartley Green will be headed up by new managing director, Michael Roach. With over 25 years' experience of working within the IMC Group in the UK, Mr Roach is relishing the new challenge and commented: “Following many years working within the group, I'm very enthused about this opportunity. I recently visited the manufacturing plants in Japan to witness firsthand the manufacturing processes and stringent quality control procedures. This immediately filled me with confidence that the Tungaloy brand is destined to achieve significant sales levels in the UK.”

Mr Roach continued: “Despite not previously having a branded presence in the UK, Tungaloy already has an established UK customer base and this is credit to the quality of the product range and the efforts of the current distribution network. I am confident that as a leading cutting tool supplier to many Japanese manufacturers and Toyota worldwide, Tungaloy UK will succeed to penetrate successfully in the UK market. The R&D team in Japan is continually developing new innovations that can deliver productivity benefits and cost reductions. The next step is to ensure that UK customers reap the benefits of these efforts.”
