Two decades of service for HepcoMotion trio

Robert Powell, Richard Frank and Richard Gunn are celebrating 20 years working at engineering firm HepcoMotion.

Having attended high school together in Tiverton, the trio all joined HepcoMotion’s apprenticeship program directly upon finishing school and have stayed at the company ever since. Against recent trends, it seems at HepcoMotion, a ‘job for life’ is still a very real concept.

All three engineers joined Hepco as apprentices, spending the first year learning key engineering skills such as milling, turning, bench fitting, CAD modelling and CNC programming. The next two years were spent working in different departments including time in the office to gain an overall view of the company, before being placed into their designated department. Following similar paths, Messrs Frank and Gunn now programme Hepco’s large CNC machines producing cutting-edge, high-value products, while Mr Powell primarily focuses on rack cutting and manual machining.

20 years is a big commitment to a company, but Mr Gunn puts this down to the state-of-the-art machinery he uses and how Hepco keeps up-to-date with the latest technology and software: “I’m lucky that the equipment we work with is world-class,” he commented. “The variety of work keeps it interesting and we’re producing products for well-known brands globally.”

Peter Fanshawe, HepcoMotion managing director added: “Completing 20 years of service is a noteworthy achievement and I would like to thank Richard, Robert and Richard for their commitment to HepcoMotion. They have been through two decades of changes with us and their individual contributions are commendable and highly valued.”

Tiverton-based HepcoMotion is a leading manufacturer of linear motion systems and automation components. For over 25 years, it has offered an award-winning apprenticeship programme, with over 100 apprentices passing through the scheme.
