Up and away

According to the organisers, the Subcon exhibition is continuing to enlist new companies on board with stand sales up a reported 20% on this time last year.

2009 was a record year for the show – the UK's only event dedicated to subcontract manufacturing services – with 285 exhibitors and visitor numbers up 30%.

This year's event, which runs from 8-10 June at the NEC, Birmingham, looks to be continuing in the same vein with exhibitors covering all aspects of mechanical and electronic manufacture, from machined parts, electronic assemblies, castings, plastic mouldings and metal fabrications, through to full manufacturing services, design and build, and rapid prototyping.

The value of the show to exhibitors is underlined by the views of both new and returning companies. Last year, 60% of visitors said they had come specifically to look for new suppliers. Of these, 94% were looking for UK subcontractors, with 35% also looking for overseas suppliers.

Exhibiting for the first time at this year's Subcon is Precision Technologies International (PTI). The company specialises in high precision machining to demanding leadtimes, and is a significant supplier to Formula One chassis and engine teams.

PTI's motorsport manager Colin Palin commented that with the company having exhibited successfully for a number of years at motorsport exhibitions, now is a good time to showcase its services to a larger business sector.
“Subcon is the perfect show for PTI to exhibit,” he remarked. “The show fits perfectly with the type of products and services PTI can offer. Attendances and the quality of attendees from 2009 were enough to convince us that this is the show to be at.”

The proven success of Subcon is underlined by Jean-Yves Dziki, marketing manager of Lancashire-based Bright Spark Engineering, which is returning in 2010 after a successful show last year.

“Subcon 2009 was the best show we have attended so far,” he enthused. “Over the past year, Bright Spark Engineering has grown its sales by 20% despite the recession and the new customers we secured at the last Subcon Show have played a major part in this success.”
