XYZ Machine Tools’ UMC-4+1 now available for demonstration

The first XYZ UMC-4+1 5-axis machining centre has arrived at XYZ Machine Tools' headquarters in Burlescombe, Devon and is now available for demonstration.

The machine features many of the key features of its sibling, the XYZ UMC-5X, but by focusing on 4+1 axis movements, rather than simultaneous 5-axis machining, the machine cost has been reduced, making multi-facet, high-precision, machining available to a much wider customer base.

Nigel Atherton, managing director, XYZ Machine Tools, commented: “Following the introduction and success of the UMC-5X we had many conversations with customers who, while seeing the advantages of simultaneous 5-axis movement, couldn’t justify the investment. This led directly to the creation of the UMC-4+1, which at a starting price of under £130,000, which is a saving of around £30,000 over the UMC-5X, providing a highly cost competitive entry into 5-axis machining for those not requiring simultaneous 5-axis operation.”

The XYZ UMC-4+1 shares the same machining envelope as the UMC-5X, with axis travels of 600 by 600 by 500 mm (XYZ) and a 600 mm trunnion-style rotary table that has 90 revs/min rotational speed and 600 kg load capacity. Customers can choose from either a 12,000 or 15,000 revs/min in-line spindle or a motorised unit with up to 24,000 revs/min. Control is provided by the popular Siemens 828D Shopmill system with its 15” touchscreen interface.

We have listened to wat they want and have created new ranges, such as the UMC’s and Linear Rail machines, to meet customers needs and help them to drive productivity and profitability.”
