24 companies have been recognised for their operational excellence from the ‘Supply Chains for the 21st Century’ (SC21) programme. The companies from across the UK were awarded bronze, silver or gold at the SC21 Task Force conference, which took place at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry.

The supply chain improvement programme, which has more than 760 corporate participants, is based on companies following a framework to achieve and maintain set criteria within areas including: business excellence; manufacturing excellence; relationship excellence; and quality and delivery performance. The programme raises the performance of participating companies supplying in to prime customers such as Airbus, Bombardier, Thales and Rolls Royce, increasing the overall competitiveness of the UK’s aerospace and defence industries.

The gold award, held by only one other supplier on the programme, was achieved by Wincanton Group (Bicester unit). To achieve gold, companies must meet performance agreements for delivery (over 99%) and quality (over 99.9%) on a rolling average for five years. This performance level is assessed and signed off by the Prime customer.

Paul Everitt, CEO of ADS Group, said: “Competitive and sustainable supply chains are vital to the future growth and success of our industries; through the SC21 programme, companies benefit from a clear and practical framework that enables greater efficiency and productivity.

“Congratulations to all of the award winners, especially Wincanton Group Ltd. for achieving Gold. It is fantastic to see so many companies receiving awards, a clear reflection of industry’s commitment to improving capabilities within the supply chain, and good economic news given the high-skill, high-value employment it provides.”

Chis Fenton, managing director industrial and transport, Wincanton Group, said: “We are delighted to receive the highest SC21 award in recognition for our commitment to continuous improvement. We recognise the benefits of following the structure; driving cultural change across the business, improving our capabilities. By meeting the standards of the SC21 programme we are able to deliver efficient supply chain solutions to customers and receiving this recognition only enhances our reputation”.
