Academic attraction

WNT (UK)'s recent open house was a major attraction for many leading universities and colleges, the company claims.

The Sheffield-based tooling specialist reports healthy levels of business from the event but it was especially pleased with the response from invitations to academics and technicians from universities and colleges as part of a joint initiative with XYZ Machine Tools to develop closer and stronger working relationships with academia.

“We have a long history of working with schools and colleges and see it as vital that the education the students receive in manufacturing technology reflects what they will find when they venture out into careers of their own,” remarked managing director, Tony Pennington. “Working with XYZ on this initiative has given it a fresh impetus and we were encouraged by the attendance at the open house by delegates from some of the UK's leading colleges and universities.”

The delegates included representatives from Cambridge University, York University, Derby University and Derby College. WNT's service offering includes full onsite technical support to ensure that the cutting tools are being used optimally and, mindful of the current squeeze on public spending, an attractive discount structure for the purchase of new tools.
