Awards deadline extended

The MTA has extended the deadline for entries to the Manufacturing Industry Awards to Friday 4th February 2011.

Launched by the MTA in partnership with the sector's other trade associations and Lloyds Banking Group, Commercial – the Awards will highlight and celebrate successes from across the world of engineering based manufacturing.

The entry form can be completed online and shortlisted entries will be judged by the industry through an online voting system open to the public on 8th February. Those entries with the majority of votes will be announced at the Gala Award Ceremony on 9th March 2011.

The Award categories and sponsoring associations are:

• Young Engineer of the Year, sponsored by the Engineering Industries Association (EIA)
• Drive for Sustainable Manufacturing, sponsored by the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM)
• Best Training Scheme, sponsored by the Gauge and Tool Makers Association (GTMA)
• Best Supplier Partnership, sponsored by the British Gear Association (BGA)
• Most Dynamic Sub-contractor, sponsored by the British Turned Parts Manufacturers Association (BTMA)

There is also a special scholarship award – the AMTRI Scholarship – which is a £10,000 fund intended to promote excellence in machinery development and engineering manufacturing. The Scholarship, open to professional and graduate engineers undertaking Continuous Professional Development, aims to encourage co-operation between industry and the higher education sector.

The Award ceremony will be celebrated in conjunction with the MTA's Annual Dinner and will be staged at the new location of the ICC Birmingham on 9th March 2011.
