Big and bold

With a long pedigree supplying machine tools to the motorsport engineering sector, Yamazaki Mazak will again be exhibiting at Autosport 2012. Recently, the company has renewed its partnership

with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes as the F1 team's official supplier of CNC machine tools.

On the stand will be the Integrex i-400 S – a high capacity version of the Integrex i-series of machines, offering full 5-axis machining and capable, in conjunction with the second spindle, of true ‘Done-In-One' machining. The machine offers a 1,500mm bed, a maximum machining diameter of 658mm and a machining length of up to 1,519mm. The main spindle has a maximum speed of 3,300rpm whilst the secondary spindle is capable of 4,000rpm.

In addition, the large machining envelope guarantees a wide range of movement across all axes, including 65mm in X, 1,585mm in Z, 250mm in Y and 1,574mm in the W-axis.

During the course of the show the i-400 S will be regularly performing live cutting demonstrations of a front upright component for a UB Racing Formula Student car. UB Racing is the Formula Student racing team from the University of Birmingham which competes in Formula Student UK and Formula Student Germany, supported by Mazak.

Tony Saunders, UK sales director for Mazak comments: “The Integrex i-400 S is, we believe, the largest and most advanced machine tool ever exhibited at Autosport Engineering. The large machining envelope and range of movement ensures that a wide range of automotive components can be machined quickly and effectively.”

He continues: “The i-series has proved to be highly successful in the UK market and across Europe since its launch last year and we are confident that the motorsport sector will benefit from its capabilities.”
