Warship defence deal safeguards UK jobs
The Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has announced the signing of a contract worth around £3.7 billion to start building the Royal Navy’s Type 26 Frigates.
A recent Ministry of Defence (MoD) order, worth £2.3 billion, means hundreds of these combat vehicles will be manufactured in the UK.
A consortium led by Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, has signed a contract to produce 500 Boxer-type military vehicles for the British Army.
90% of the vehicles for the army will be made in Britain, principally at factories operated by a joint venture between BAE Systems and Rheinmetall and KMW’s subsidiary WFEL.
