This year at MACH, Haas will showcase 12 machines from its 350m² of stand space, as well as two additional machines in vendor booths. Vertical machining centres 2010 has seen a redesign in Haas' VF VMC product line to incorporate a wide range of enhancements. The company reviewed all aspects of the machines – including motion control, coolant containment, chip evacuation, ergonomics, and serviceability – and has made a number of changes and improvements across the range. DT-1 drill/tap centre The DT-1 is a compact, high speed drill/tap centre with full milling capabilities. The machine has a 20 inch x 16 inch x 15.5 inch (XYZ) work cube and a 26 inch by 15 inch T-slot table. A powerful BT30 taper inline direct drive spindle spins to 15,000rpm and allows rigid tapping at speeds up to 5,000rpm. A high speed, 20+1 side mount tool changer swaps tools in 0.8 seconds, while 2,400ipm rapids and 1G acceleration rates combine to shorten cycle times and reduce non-cutting time. ST-20SS turning centre The new generation ST-20SS is a high speed turning centre equipped with a 24 station hybrid BOT/VDI turret that indexes tools in half a second. The machine provides a maximum cutting capacity of 10 inch by 20.5 inch, with maximum swings of 31.75 inch over the front apron and 20.75 inch over the cross slide. The ST-20SS's A2-6 spindle nose has a 3 inch spindle bore and a bar capacity of 2 inch. Equipped with an 8.3 inch hydraulic 3-jaw chuck, the machine's 30hp vector dual drive spindle spins to 5,000rpm and provides 115ft/lb of torque at 1,380rpm. On the fly wye delta switching yields a wide constant horsepower band for constant surface feed cuts. Rapids are 1,200ipm on the Z-axis and 945ipm on the X-axis. ST-30SS turning centre The Haas ST-30 turning centre was designed from the ground up to be rigid, accurate and thermally stable. The spindle head features a compact, symmetric design for thermal stability and rigidity, and the 45° wedge design increases the tool mounting envelope and improves chip flow. The ST-30 has a maximum cutting capacity of 21 inch by 26 inch with maximum swings of 31.75 inch over the front apron and 20.75 inch over the cross slide. The spindle bore is 3.5 inch with a bar capacity of 3 inch. The machine's 30hp vector dual drive spindle spins to 3,400rpm and provides 275ft/lb of torque. The ST-30 features an A2-6 spindle nose and comes equipped with a 10 inch hydraulic 3-jaw chuck. A 12 station bolt on style tool turret is standard, with a 12 station VDI turret or 12 station hybrid VDI/BOT turret available as options. Standard equipment on the ST-30 comprises rigid tapping, a 15 inch colour LCD monitor and USB connectivity. Other available equipment includes a belt type chip conveyor, hydraulic tailstock, automatic tool probe, live tooling with C-axis, an automatic parts catcher and a high pressure coolant system. Haas
