From optical measuring technology to augmented reality features and 100% monitoring of collaborative systems, right up to the latest computer tomographs and tactile sensors, and all industrial image processing, Control 2019 (held from May 7-10) is a show that has everything for those involved in quality control, quality assurance and metrology.

Successful partnerships with well-known research facilities and industry institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute and the Fraunhofer Vision Alliance have been a longstanding feature of the show and will continue in 2019.

This year a special show on 330m² of floor space will feature 20 exhibitors (Hall 6, Stand 6401) showcasing various technologies and solutions for contactless and non-destructive measuring and test technology.

With numerous displays, this special show area organised by the Fraunhofer Vision Alliance will offer a broad selection of a suitable technology for every conceivable testing application.

Within the wider format of Control 2019, the exhibitors will also present complete contactless measuring and test systems. For example, light section techniques, band projection, white light interferometry, holography, confocal measuring processes and time-of-flight will be just some of the processes covered.

Additionally, measuring and test technologies which are becoming more and more important for examining material structures will also be presented, such as computer thermography and X-ray systems.

Integrated inspection

Control will also address the trend of ever closer integration of quality assurance and production. Today, testing can be conducted inline without losing time on the shopfloor. Manufacturers of measuring and test technology are addressing this development with modular applications which are integrated into the shopfloor meaning less and less time spent on isolated test benches.

This means quality assurance systems incorporated into production must be capable of withstanding adverse environmental conditions and be able to process data rapidly. This is where industrial image processing has major benefits for manufacturers.

Industrial manufacturing is subject to continuous change. Demands placed on the levels of quality to be attained in production are becoming stricter and stricter – not only for the visible areas of the various products, but also at micro and nano level.

New technologies and optimisation in the fields of measuring technology and image processing will be necessary in order to do justice to more and more demanding requirements for quality and individuality of products, as well as rising price pressure. As a logical consequence, the IPA (Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation) will present its most up-to-date findings on this topic at Control this year.

Automated learning

Furthermore, the topical issue of machine learning and vision and the technological revolution thanks to artificial intelligence and modern image processing will also be a special focus at the show with live demonstrations in 2019.

Visitors to the event will be provided with thought-provoking insights into how artificial intelligence and new types of image and signal analysis are being used in industrial settings. The show’s Event Forum will focus attention on the capabilities of machine learning processes and camera-aided image processing systems for quality assurance, and their possible range of applications. These include, for example, self-learning error detection based on the model of human vision, use of deep learning algorithms and embedded vision systems.

This year’s Event Forum will be held in a new hall 8 at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre known as ‘Silicon Hall’.

As is the case every year, the exhibitor forum is an additional crowd-puller for Control visitors and exhibitors. In 2019 it will provide participants with the opportunity of transferring theory into actual industrial QA practice in ideal ways by means of technical presentations and best practice reports.

Visitors will be able to derive solutions for their own quality assurance tasks from the individual application cases introduced at the forum.
