Doubling up

NCMT will be taking two adjacent stands at MACH to exhibit an abundance of new machinery, with one dedicated to machines from its longstanding partner, Okuma, which will demonstrate the Japanese manufacturer's two approaches to high end, multi-functional machining. The first of these is its new Multus B200-W turning machine which offers up to 22kW main spindle power and in the same set-up, can perform 5-axis machining operations using a milling spindle rated at up to 16 kW mounted on a swivelling, 225° B-axis. The model on the stand will be the smallest in a series of machines with capacities from below 200mm up to 1,000mm diameter and up to 6m between centres. The slant-bed lathe also features Okuma's patented Thermo Friendly Concept to keep thermal deviation to a maximum of 10 microns over a 24 hour period and a variation in ambient temperature of 8°C. The second new machine from Okuma is the Multus MU-500VA-L mill/turn which offers a table rotated by a direct drive motor at up to 1,000rpm, or 12,000rpm in lathe function, allowing components to be turned in conjunction with a static tool in the spindle. The design is based on a fully integrated trunnion swivelling horizontally through +20/-110° and carrying a 360° rotary table. These respectively add A and C axes to an XYZ envelope of 1,250mm x 660mm x 540mm, with the maximum weight of component that can be supported being 500kg. Across the aisle, NCMT's expanded product range continues with a series of grinders from new partner, Okamoto. First up is the Fanuc 18i-TA 2-axis controlled IGM-15NC2 twin spindle CNC internal grinder which provides versatility, productivity and precision. Specification includes an ID grinding capacity of 6mm to 100mm, maximum grinding stroke of 80mm and a swing over table of 600mm. Maximum longitudinal travel is 500mm, while feed rates can reach 10m/minute. The table rides on high precision linear guideways and is driven by an AC servo motor that enables minimum feed increments as fine as 0.25µm. Both high frequency, inverter controlled spindles have 10,000rpm and 20,000rpm speeds as standard, and any combination of 10,000rpm, 15,000rpm, 20,000rpm 30,000rpm, 40,000rpm and 60,000rpm is available as an option. Two-point diamond dressing of the ODs and faces of the grinding wheels is provided. Also new from Okamoto is the UPZ-210Li surface grinder. Described as a new style of profile grinder, the UPZ-210Li is a counterpart to optical profile grinding machines, but differs in that it allows the use of coolant. Specifically designed for grinding small, accurate components the head can be swivelled ±5° for high precision on vertical shoulder parts. Beyond its core machinery offering, visitors to the stand can also find out about a whole range of other new products from new and existing partners, with NCMT having recently become the UK distributor for Speroni tool presetters, Manufacturing Laboratories' MetalMAX and Harmonizer diagnostic products.
