Using electron beams to generate precisely defined surfaces

Surfi-Sculpt is a new materials processing technology developed by TWI. An electron beam is used to change surfaces to precisely defined textures in a matter of seconds per cm².

The level of precision allows the user to design customised surfaces for any application. TWI states some recommended possibilities as:

High aspect ratio features

Honeycomb structures

Hollow conical features

Multiple stage treatments

Fine-scale fins

Holes/slots with no burrs on the reverse
