F1 specialist opts for CMZ

CMZ received an order at MACH for a TC20 YS lathe with Y-axis and sub-spindle from Kings Langley-based Formula One machining specialist JK Engineering.

The 200mm chuck size machine ordered – as with all the TC range – features a particularly large Y-axis movement of 140mm, from -60mm to +80mm, with large guideways and a raised centre height. This also allows the use of a larger turret disk, with 16 full-size stations, all with powerful 12kW driven tooling.

The machine will also be fitted with tool monitoring and tool break detection, selectable coolant pressures to allow deep hole drilling and optical scales on X and Y axes for accuracy. Quick change chucks for rapid changeovers are also aided by the LPS linear scale on the main and sub-spindle chuck cylinders making the changing of the grip positions quick and easy.

John Kenny, managing director of JK Engineering, said: “It is the ultimate small batch, high complexity turning machine. The crucial factor for me is that all 16 tools on the turret can be driven, which gives great versatility for a small machine. I don't think any other manufacturer can offer this capability.”
