Fabricator invests in new machinery from AMOB UK

Stafford-based Cabcare Products, a company specialising in anti-vandal and demolition guards for the earth moving sector has recently completed the installation of a 60mm capacity AMOB mandrel bender.

The purchase of this machine corresponds with a requirement to replace two older models – previously the company had been using a pair  of single-axis-controlled rotary draw benders. “With the old bending process, we had a lot of material that needed to be cut off to length. Now we’re already seeing savings with the new AMOB machine,” said Adrian Grew, technical sales director at Cabcare Products.

With the MDH-60 CN2 model purchased by Cabcare, the CNC control now actuates not only bend angle operation, but also the CNC tube rotation: “The main improvement is the accuracy of the bent tube,” Mr Grew adds. “This accuracy is not only providing time savings, but also cost savings on material. The quality and appearance of the finished product has improved significantly and with the machine being 2-axis controlled, no rework is required before welding. Another benefit is that we can process much more complex designs.

“I have to say, AMOB’s support has been excellent, before, during and after installation.”

“Installed in late 2022, Cabcare’s new tube bending machine has enhanced its ability to accurately bend 33.7mm box section handrails,” affirms Robert Manners, AMOB’s service and start up manager. Additionally, the company has seen improvements in productivity and repeatability.”

Cabcare provides a wide range of handrails to provide protection to the driver while working on the back of an excavator. The handrails are designed to bolt onto existing fixings, avoiding the need to drill or weld the machine. Traditionally handrails have been very large solid structures bolted and welded onto the machine structure – however, Cabcare handrail systems are designed to be lighter and more flexible, reducing and preventing cracking issues that often develop on larger structures.

“We are delighted that Cabcare has chosen to invest in an AMOB tube bending machine, and we hope that this is the start of a fruitful business relationship,” enthuses Tom Wood, managing director of AMOB UK. “It has been rewarding to assist Cabcare in streamlining their production and improving their repeatability.”

AMOB’s tube bending machinery range incorporate varying degrees of automation:

  • CN1 models control only the bend angle of the tube via NC automation. Operators are required to rotate and position the tube between bends if necessary

  • CN2 models include NC bend angle operation and NC tube rotation. Operators of these machines are only required to position the tube between bends, if necessary

  • CN3 machines include NC bend angle operation, NC tube rotation and NC positioning of the tube. All steps can be run from the control panel to produce a complete multi-bend part

  • CNC models include CNC bend angle operation, CNC tube rotation and CNC positioning of the tube. Operators run all steps with the press of a button to produce a complete multi-bend part, with the advantage of many more CNC features

Cabcare’s new 3m MDH-CN2 electromechanical mandrel bender features a 60mm outside diameter and 3mm wall thickness maximum capacity with a maximum bending radius of 195mm. Two axes are NC controlled with a single manual axis. A hydraulic mandrel extractor and hydraulic pressure die are included as standard.

Y- and Z-axis accuracies are ± 0.1° and 0.05° respectively.
