Faro UK exhibits at Autosport Engineering 2011

Portable measurement and imaging systems specialist, Faro, will be exhibiting at the Autosport Engineering Show from 16-17 January 2011 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Autosport Engineering is a two day trade only specialist area within Autosport International for technical suppliers to the motorsport industry. Areas represented include engine testing, racing components, race shop tools and equipment, fuel systems, set-up equipment, electronics, hydraulics and composites.

“Autosport Engineering is a very important show for us regarding the automotive and motorsport industry,” said David Homewood, area vice president of sales for the UK, France and Benelux. “Faro is very strong in this sector and the exhibition will give us the opportunity to reach a broad audience. We will be showing our whole range of measuring arms and portable scanning systems, including the new Faro Laser Scanner Focus3D which has been launched recently.

He continued: “Visitors will have the chance to see live demonstrations of our portable measurement systems and our aim is to make people realise how quick and easy measurement can be carried out. Many of our customers used stationary measuring equipment before switching to our portable systems but now their leadtimes are reduced whilst maintaining the required quality levels. This guarantees a very fast ROI.”

One of Faro's customers, McLaren Racing, has been using Faro technology for more than 10 years, and it's become an invaluable part of its measuring and quality control process.

“Formula 1 is an environment that is intrinsically response critical,” explained Jonathan Neale, managing director of McLaren Racing. “As a business, we're always looking at ways to improve efficiency and increase productivity in order to speed up our manufacturing process. In this respect, Faro equipment has been essential. We're now able to monitor and measure up to 1,000 individual components each week – and that had a significant effect on our ability to respond promptly to any developments within our organisation.

“But it's not just about speed of response – our need to create more sophisticated aerodynamic surfaces has made it far harder to rapidly read and measure tolerances using conventional measuring devices. As a result, we're now able to do things using Faro technology that we simply couldn't do before.”

Other customers from the motorsport sector include Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Fiat, Heggemann Autosport GmbH, Honda, ORECA, Pons Racing, Porsche, Renault and Seat.
