French focus on manufacturing

One of France’s biggest metalworking trade events, Simodec 2018, is back this year.

The international show, dedicated to machine tools and bar turning, is being staged at the exhibition centre, in La Roche-sur-Foron, Eastern France between the 6th and 9th March.

The show, which was first staged back in 1954, will not only offer visitors the latest manufacturing technology from more than 300 exhibitors, but also a high-end programme of presentations and conferences themed around ‘Humanity and Industry’.

In 22,000m² of space at the Exhibition Park in Haute-Savoie, attendees can witness the latest advances in: production equipment; cutting tools; metrology and inspection; assembly and robotics, maintenance and subcontracting; additive manufacturing; industrial supplies and other peripheral equipment and services.

Mathieu Herrou, from organiser Rochexpo and director of the Simodec show, commented: “Simodec is held in the heart of the Arve Valley – the birthplace in France for industrial parts manufacturing and bar turning and close to Switzerland and the watchmaking industries, but also at the centre of industrial innovation.

“Over 500 brands were presented at the show in 2016, showing just how innovative our industries are today. The show also provides a peek into what is happening all over the world in terms of manufacturing, machinery and industrial robotics.

“Our genuine proximity to manufacturers as well as users gives us unrivalled legitimacy compared to other events that are too far removed from the reality of French and international industry. We are happy to welcome worldwide leaders in manufacturing technology like: Index, DMG Mori; Staubli and ABB who have already confirmed their participation.”

Other major names in machine tooling, robotics and manufacturing equipment will also be there, namely: Tornos; Tajmac; Schunk; Star Machine Tools; Kasto; Fanuc; Romi and many more.

The provisional programme of presentations begins with, ‘The Plant of the Future’ on March 6th, which will focus on collaborative robots. ‘International Day’ on March 8th, with conferences and workshops. ‘Women in Industry’, March 8th; ‘Training and Jobs’, March 9th and the show’s 2018 Innovation Awards. More than 18,000 people are expected to attend the event.

Mr Herrou added: “With our provisional programme focusing on the people that make up this industry, their relationship with their work and the future of the industry, Simodec 2018 will be where industrial players and suppliers will showcase their technical and social innovations to create Industry 4.0.”
