High flying hardness testing

The Bowers Group has announced the launch of the Falcon 500 series of multi-functional hardness testing machines.

Capable of delivering precise automatic and manual results in Micro Vickers, Vickers, Knoop and Micro Brinell scales, the advanced new testers represent a new generation of instruments that are designed to improve conventional hardness testing methods and eliminate user influence on test results.

With a load range from 1gf - 62.5Kgf, the Falcon 500 testers are able to withstand use in the harshest of environments. The series features a solid frame structure that is covered by shock and damage proof ABS covers, together with high quality mechanical components and optics. At the core of the Falcon series is its powerful, embedded microsystem. This controller has no moving or running parts and is encased in a strong chip and dust proof enclosure.

To help achieve absolute accuracy, reliability and repeatability on each of the test forces used, the machine's force actuator system utilises an electronically controlled closed loop system and advanced force sensor technology.

Fully automatic image evaluation combined with intuitive operator software provides ease and speed of use whilst removing operator influence on all test results. The use of Impressions software enables efficient workflow control and reproducibility of test results. Easily accessed functions include test program setting and storing, image zoom, auto focus, limit settings, conversions to other hardness scales, system set-up, remote control and pattern testing.

Following each test, useful statistics, including total test, max, min, average, range and standard deviation, are made available in real time. Data storage capacity is via a dual SSD 80Gb, RAID system.

Delivery includes standard indenters, a five megapixel HD camera, a high power LED vertical illuminator with filter position, an anti-collision system and a 15 inch portrait mode HD industrial touchscreen mounted on an adjustable table stand.

To enable the hardness tester to suit all customers' needs, a wide range of optional accessories and add-ons are available, including a range of certified indentors and hardness blocks, objectives from 2,5X - 100X and LED workpiece illumination. To aid speed and automation, motorised, fast CNC positioning X-Y stages, CNC rotary table and CNC dividing heads are also available.
