Manufacturing milestone

One of the UK’s largest and most enduring aluminium foundries, JH Lavender (JHL) has recently committed to a £2 million investment in order to drive the business forward and safeguard its future.

JHL was originally founded in 1917 by John Herbert Lavender and has the accolade of probably being the oldest privately owned aluminium foundry in the UK. During the early years of industrialisation, JHL was a key supplier to the marine, automobile and motorcycle industries supplying iconic British brands such as Ariel, AJS, BSA, Matchless, Norton, Panther, Triumph and Villiers.

The vast experience gained during the early years has ensured a solid engineering knowledge and depth of expertise that is retained to this day. To meet the demands of new products, mass production and increased quality control, JHL has consistently invested in the latest technology.

The investment programme incorporates two factory extensions, new fully automated Colosio high pressure diecasting machines and CNC machining centres. The result is a truly modern site housing tool design and manufacture, pressure and gravity diecasting, finishing, sub-assembly and machining. JHL is accredited to the appropriate quality accreditations to support its wide range of customer requirements – ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and ISO TS 16949:2009.

JHL is still located at the heart of the industrial Midlands and will be successfully its centenary in 2017. The company will be exhibiting at the Automechanika exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham which takes place from 7-9 June.
