The annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table listed machine tool sales company NCMT in sixth place.

The table ranks 200 mid-market private companies (unquoted and not subsidiaries) in Britain with the fastest growing international sales. The full list can be viewed at: www.fasttrack.co.uk/league-tables/international-track-200/league-table

Founded in 1964, NCMT is the sales and service agent in the UK and Ireland for machine tools built by Makino, Japan, as well as other overseas principals.

An agreement was struck in 2006 allowing NCMT to sell Makino Viper grinders, which it helped to develop, into the aerospace and powergen gas turbine manufacturing industries across Europe. It resulted in the company hitting export sales of £10.7 million in the last financial year, propelling the company to a two-year average international sales growth rate per annum of 163%.

NCMT is now looking to diversify into high precision gear manufacturing technology and has written proprietary software. It plans to deploy this not only on Makino platforms but also on machining centres and lathes produced by Okuma, another Japanese machine tool builder that it represents in the UK and Ireland only. The initiative has the potential to accelerate export business further, as well as domestic turnover.
