With almost one million on the road in Europe, the car has resonated with European customers. The new Juke was unveiled today in London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona and Cologne, and has been created to appeal to European drivers
The Juke will continue to be produced at Nissan’s award-winning manufacturing plant in Sunderland, which employs 7,000 people.
A further 28,000 people work in the company’s UK supply chain, bringing the total number of British jobs supported by Nissan to 40,000 (including its UK dealer network, design studio and sales & marketing.)
The Sunderland factory reached 10 million vehicles made from its production line in June. It means on average a new car has been built in Sunderland every two minutes since production started in 1986. Total investment made and announced since the start of production is over £4 billion
Nissan Sunderland Plant produces the Nissan Qashqai, Juke, Infiniti Q30 and the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, 80% of which is exported to over 100 markets worldwide.
In July Nissan announced plans to cut 12,500 jobs globally over the next three years, although it appears Sunderland has avoided any further redundancies.
The first customer deliveries for the new Juke will take place at the end of November.
“Nissan Juke is back with its unique identity, even more character, exciting performance and advanced technology that responds to driver needs,” said Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan Europe vice president, product planning. “The new design and exciting driving experience will appeal to the growing number of customers opting for compact crossovers. The JUKE has grown up, while still retaining the fun-to-drive qualities that have always made it stand out.”
