New partnership focuses on aerospace solutions

The installation of the new second generation machine builds on an existing agreement between the two companies which sees Grob’s machining technology installed at Kyocera SGS’ Technical Centre in Wokingham. The machine will be primarily used to help Kyocera SGS’ customers develop cutting tools, processes and strategies for its aerospace customers.

The new G350 machine being installed at Wokingham has an increased tool magazine of 60 tools and a smaller footprint than its predecessor. Three linear and two rotary axes permit five-sided machining, as well as 5-axis simultaneous interpolation. With a swivel range of 225° in the A-axis and 360° in the B-axis, the G350 offers a highly flexible solution, able to carry out a broad range of machining operations.

Hugh Welch, European managing director at Kyocera SGS explained: “We will be using the Grob machine to help develop processes for our customer’s applications. With Grob’s and our own expertise in the aerospace market, there is a synergy between our cutting tools and the machine tool that helps us replicate what our customers want to achieve at our technical centre. This service is part of our added value offer for our customers.

“We selected the Grob machine because we produce premium tools and they need to need to be seen working on a premium machine tool. We need machines that achieve the performance that shows our cutting tools at their best. The high-end performance of the machine also facilitates the high-end performance of our cutting tools.”
