Scaled up productivity with Nikken

Established in 1890, Cambridge-based machining, sheetmetal, fabrication, and welding specialist George Lister Engineering supplies products to various industries, including medical, pharmaceutical, motorsport, scientific, construction and oil and gas.

The company provides subcontracting services while also manufacturing its own highly impressive historic continuation cars such as the Lister Knobbly, a classic racing car that was designed, built and raced in the 1950s and 60s.

With demand for George Lister’s services constantly increasing, the company identified a need to enhance its production process and speed up operating time. Before acquiring Nikken rotary table technology, George Lister could not complete simultaneous operations and struggled to meet the capabilities required to hit the rates it wanted to achieve. While demand increased, the company still needed a solution that could provide high-quality parts and increase productivity.

Investing in two new Doosan CNC vertical machining centres, a DNM4500 and a DNM6700, the company knew it wanted the new machines supplied with a Nikken fourth axis rotary table due to the brand's recognition for excellent quality and robust solutions. Since purchasing the two tables and trunnions, productivity has rocketed and opened the door to improved machining. The investment in Nikken rotary tables has reduced operations from six to just two, allowing multiple jobs to be done in one hit, reducing energy consumption, and increasing sustainability.

A representative from the company comments: “Nikken solutions have allowed us to increase our capacity for parts manufacture, and our return on investment has improved since using Nikken rotary tables. The extra workholding solution has enhanced our production process, allowing us to complete jobs faster while maintaining component quality.”
