On-site laser tracker calibration

The launch of a highly-efficient on-site laser tracker calibration service by NJ Metrology caused great interest at the recent EPMC 2018 conference and exhibition.

As the only European event solely dedicated to portable and large volume 3D measurement technology the event, held at the Ricoh Arena Coventry in November, proved the ideal launch-pad for NJ Metrology’s cost-effective new calibration service.

Prompted by laser tracker users’ frustration with expensive and slow off-site calibration, through the use of highly specialised equipment and innovative calibration software, NJ Metrology now offers a speedy and precise on-site calibration service. Rather than lose the use of laser trackers for several days, all makes can now be accurately calibrated and returned to use for the customer with minimum downtime.

Laser trackers are traditionally sent back to the OEM for annual calibration. This is not necessarily reflective of the accuracy being achieved when used on-site, compared to the controlled environment in which they were designed.

NJ Metrology’s calibration procedure has been developed to isolate the sources of error within the tracker when being used at the end user’s facilities. The resultant calibration certificate is UKAS traceable and is designed to link into an innovative estimation software that is being developed. This allows the user of the tracker to obtain accuracy estimations based on the size of the component being measured.

Having established an excellent reputation for its in-depth expertise and wide range of cost-effective services related to Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), NJ Metrology now services and supports all types of CMM for a long list of UK end-users.

Currently in its third decade of operation, the ISO 17025 registered company is UKAS accredited to calibrate CMMs to ISO 10360-2 and surface tables to BS 817. Having invested heavily in a range of precision calibration measuring equipment and efficient systems, it now supplies CMM calibration certificates with the best (i.e. lowest) measurement uncertainty figures available in the UK.

The launch of NJ Metrology’s latest service means that the company is now able to undertake the efficient on-site calibration of conventional CMMs , articulation arm CMMs and now laser trackers.
