Right first time

All-electric tube bending machine specialist Unison will be demonstrating its innovative laser-controlled spring-back correction system.

All-electric tube bending machine specialist Unison will be demonstrating its innovative laser-controlled spring-back correction system, which is now available as a build to order option on any of the company's bending machines for tubes from 50mm diameter upwards.

The system will be shown on a 76mm model to highlight its benefits for manufacturers producing relatively large diameter tubular parts.

The system automatically compensates for the natural tendency of metal tubes to ‘spring back' slightly after being bent, enabling part manufacturers to implement a ‘right-first-time' production process. By eliminating the scrap wastage associated with conventional hydraulically powered bending machines, it helps users address the spiralling cost of raw materials and is especially beneficial for companies working with exotic alloys. The correction system can also be used for edge and feature detection to facilitate more stable process control of pre-laser cut parts.

Unison will also be highlighting its new quick release tooling and barcode identification system which enables machine operators to handle complete tool changeovers within two to five minutes with full verification of the process. The system is designed especially for manufacturers seeking to accelerate small batch size production of tubular metal parts.

In addition, recent extensions to its extensive Breeze range of tube bending machines include a rotating head machine that can perform right- and left-hand bending in one continuous cycle and a machine that features a fully integrated cutter to facilitate the automated single-step manufacturing of volume parts.
