There appeared to be few signs of a slowdown in aircraft and engine orders at the Farnborough International airshow yesterday. By the close of day three the order total had crept up to US$85 billion, beating the totals from the 2015 Paris Airshow.

Commenting about the positive sales, Farnborough International commercial director, Amanda Stainer said: “There appears to be no let-up in the demand for new aircraft which is positive news for the British and global aerospace industry as tier one manufacturers seek to source products from the supply chain. We have approximately 1,500 exhibitors here at Farnborough, 70% of which are international and witnessing approximately 20,000 visitors each day.”

She added: “The Meet the Buyer programme has also seen 1,680 meetings taking place between 40 buyers and 200 suppliers over the last three days. 2014 saw a number of deals spring from these meetings after the show and we anticipate the same again this time round.”

Shaun Ormrod, Farnborough International chief executive also commented: “We’re delighted that the aerospace industry is choosing Farnborough to make their order announcements. It’s a real indication that we are achieving our objectives as business facilitators. As FIA16 draws to a close, we will start construction of the new permanent hall 1 facility which will provide an enhanced experience for our exhibitors and visitors in 2018 and beyond.”
