Staying sharp

Kerf will be demonstrating its oxy-fuel cutting, high density plasma cutting and waterjet cutting equipment at MACH.

Demonstrating its oxy-fuel cutting, high density plasma cutting and waterjet cutting equipment, Kerf Developments will be using MACH as a platform to promote its new generation RUR profile cutting machine and its Kaliburn ‘ultrasharp' cutting technology.

Designed and manufactured for customers with high production demand, the RUR incorporates a rigid frame design that is ultrasonically stress relieved and manufactured to highly accurate tolerances. The range is designed for conventional and high density plasma and can be configured with combined plasma and oxy-fuel heads to suit the various demands of the marketplace.

Additionally, customers can configure machine lengths and widths to allow for large plate sizes or to provide the capability to cut and load/unload plates simultaneously in order to minimise machine downtime. With recent applications requiring machine beds up to 90m by 15m, Kerf can provide a bespoke solution for anything from a small machine shop or fabricator to highly productive shipyards and heavy industry.

Representing the Kaliburn Series of plasma cutting and marking machines, the Spirit 275a is part of a series of new plasma cutting systems that offer power outputs for specific customer needs. The ‘ultrasharp' technology incorporated into the machine controls the plasma arc motion to improve hole and edge quality, part accuracy and surface edge finish.

This uses a Burny CNC control which fully automates the process to provide ease of use for the customer. To simplify operation, it utilises Inova arc voltage control and advanced command messaging to minimise divots and drag when processing the material.

Additionally, the Burny system includes nesting software that assigns tailored lead-ins and lead-outs for each individual component to improve part quality. It automatically adjusts gas pressure, plasma amperage and height control by continually calibrating the NC toolpath to achieve a balance between pierce holds, feed rates and advance-off movements.
