Two for top quality training

Mills CNC, the distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland, has recently supplied two new Doosan machines to the Rolls-Royce Apprentice Academy in Derby.

The machines - a Lynx 220 lathe and a DNM 400 machining centre - were installed at the academy's 1,200m² workshop in late 2012, where they are being used to help young people on Rolls-Royce apprenticeship programmes develop and improve their practical engineering skills.

Nick Frampton, Mills CNC's managing director, said: “We are keen advocates of high-quality engineering training and are delighted that the partnership arrangement between Rolls-Royce and Mills CNC has resulted in the two new Doosan machines being installed at the apprentice academy.

“These Doosan machines are two of our most popular and best-selling models, and are used extensively by UK manufacturers machining precision parts for the aerospace, medical, motorsport and oil and gas sectors.”

In addition to supplying the machines Mills, through its independently-operated CNC training academy in Leamington, has trained two Rolls-Royce Apprentice Academy course tutors in advanced CNC turning and CNC milling as part of the arrangement.
