A driverless pod manufactured in Coventry made its national prime time TV debut.

Aurrigo, the autonomous vehicle division of RDM Group, was one of the main features on the BBC’s One Show as part of a package on driverless vehicles, and the trials currently taking place in Milton Keynes.

The pod was part of a full day’s filming in Buckinghamshire town, with presenter Christine Walkden enjoying a driverless experience around its pathways.

“We have had lots of media interest in our autonomous vehicles, but this was the first time we have been on national television during prime time viewing,” explained Miles Garner, sales and marketing director of Aurrigo.

“It is fantastic that our work with Autodrive UK in Milton Keynes was profiled, showcasing how first and last mile transport solutions can work for the general public.”

He continued: “The coverage will really put the West Midlands on the global map as one of the leading forces in driverless vehicle technology.”

Aurrigo, which was part of Coventry’s successful bid for UK City of Culture 2021, designs and develops the driverless vehicles from the ground up, including the autonomous control systems and offers a full “in the field” operating service.

Its Pod Zero has an operating speed of up to 15mph, multiple battery options up to eight hours or 50 miles and can be fitted out to seat four people or cargo.

Trials are currently taking place in Milton Keynes and Adelaide, with its Australian division set to shortly announce an exciting new project due to start in April.

Miles concluded: “2018 is going to be a massive year for us as a business. The technology is maturing and we are producing pods that can be used for first/last mile transportation needs globally.

“Interest is coming from all over the world and we are currently in a position where we can help shape this sector going forward.”
