UK engine production was stable in August 2018, with 0.3% growth compared to August 2017. Exports were up 24.9% year-on-year, offsetting decline in output for the UK due to model and structural changes.

Year-to-date production was also boosted to 1.8 million units as global demand for UK’s high-tech, low emission powertrains continues.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: “It is encouraging that long-term investments in British engine technology and production facilities have provided a solid foundation for growth. Everyone wants to see that continue, and the strong overseas demand for UK-built engines only serves to underline the extreme importance of maintaining free and frictionless trade with key overseas markets.”
