Four direct orders, an export order and an order placed on the first working day after MACH were the show highights for Citizen Machinery.

Four direct orders in excess of £500,000 were placed for machines, an export order to France that took a demonstration machine from the show followed by an order placed on the first working day after MACH 2010 closed, are summed up by Citizen Machinery's managing director Geoff Bryant as exceeding expectations.

“It demonstrated that customers are still seeking to improve their competitive advantage as the engineering manufacturing economy recovers from the low points of 2009,” he said.

Altogether there were nine machines on the Citizen-Miyano stand, of which four were new product launches, while the other machines benefitted from control and software upgrades. Three Citizen A20 and A32 CNC sliding head turn/mill centres were ordered by subcontract companies at the show, a Miyano BNJ-51 by a specialist company in Manchester and a Citizen R07, which was being demonstrated on the Unicut Precision stand in the same hall, was taken by a French customer.

While two of the orders were placed following pre-show interest, the other two were completely out of the blue and negotiated on the stand as a result of customers using the show for direct comparisons of the technology on view.

“Our registration of visitors to the stand was close to the levels experienced in 2008 which, bearing in mind the global economic situation, was excellent,” Mr Bryant reflected. “We have a host of new business potential to follow up across the Citizen and Miyano product ranges and, indeed, one of the first customer visits post-show led to an immediate order on the Monday.”

The first day draw winner of the multi-function ECO drive Citizen watch was Martin Lane, managing director of Birmingham precision subcontractor Wilco Manufacturing. Wilco is a Miyano BNE51-SY5 fixed head turning centre user and has a further 13 CNC sliding head machines installed to produce components for the automotive, electronics, hydraulics and leisure industry sectors.
