Close monitoring

Street CraneXpress has recently introduced Condition Monitoring to the ISO9001 accredited range of services it provides nationwide.

The Condition Monitoring Service (CMS) provides a complete diagnostic solution and utilises vibration monitoring, oil analysis, acoustic analysis, and thermal imaging, which, when used together produce a detailed picture of the health of hoist gearboxes, motors, electrical components and all other aspects of mechanical handling systems.

CMS is used for all levels of material handling equipment, from heavy duty applications lifting hundreds of tonnes, to smaller hoists with a higher work rate.

The company is a market leader in the provision of servicing and maintenance of cranes and hoists in the UK, and operates in sectors as diverse as nuclear decommissioning, aerospace manufacturing and waste to energy processing.

All CMS activities are non-invasive and Street CraneXpress' engineers can obtain the data they need to make an accurate diagnosis in minutes. That is a benefit in minimising down time within busy manufacturing units, and can ensure corrective action is taken before wear and tear leads to expensive machine breakdown, or worse, injury to personnel.

The long term cost savings provided by CMS are therefore significant because, often when a crane fails the consequences can be horrific. However, CMS facilitates the identification of early signs of wear or damage so that the best course of corrective action can be implemented.

Customers that use CMS benefit from the back-up service provided by Street CraneXpress' sister company Street Crane – one of the UK's leading manufacturers of overhead cranes and hoists, providing them with a single solution for monitoring, maintenance and equipment sourcing.

Street CraneXpress operates a planned preventative maintenance programme, and can also provide a ‘report of thorough examination' for operators of lifting equipment which helps clients meet their legal obligation to carry out regular and documented maintenance of their equipment.

“Our new Condition Monitoring Service provides customers with a quick and effective method of assessing the condition of their equipment,” said Ray Fletcher director of Street CraneXpress' Crane & Hoist Division. “It is the ideal complement to our Planned Preventative Maintenance programme and being able to obtain the data in a matter of minutes means there is minimal disruption to a customer's business.”
