Five year high

Kaltenbach Limited, the Bedford-based, UK division of the German sawing, drilling, profiling, finishing and associated technologies specialist, has announced its best trading start to the year for five years.

Stockholders in particular are leading industry in their pursuit of the latest high speed, high efficiency sawing technologies. Kaltenbach demonstrated several new sawing machines at MACH 2012, using circular or band technology which have since seen take-up in the UK. This included the latest generation of Behringer HBM, straight cutting, automatic bandsaws, with SC (Speed-Cutting) advanced sawing technology announced as being available across the entire range of HBM straight cutting bandsaws as a factory fitted, integrated SC Pack option.

The addition of SC technology claims an immediate impact of a further 30% improvement in cutting cycle times from straight cutting Behringer bandsaws and it's these step gains in performance that stockholders have embraced.

“We have long-term, leading stockholding customers who have been very successfully cutting difficult, very hard materials on our saws that are now some two to three years old – satisfied that they had been cutting around five times faster the industry norm,” revealed Kaltenbach UK's sales and marketing director, Barry Rooney. “Having just installed our latest HBM-SC bandsaws, they are now able to further reduce cutting cycle times by an additional 30% and sometimes more.”

TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) blades have made advances in bandsawing performance possible, but only by having machines that can withstand the high blade loads that TCT demands. TCT blades are expensive and a current significant technical differential between bandsaw machine manufacturers is not just the speed of a cut cycle, but how long the TCT blade will last.

Kaltenbach and Behringer consider it a vital purchasing decision to accurately assess TCT blade life for a machine under a customer's expected worse case material cutting conditions. The expense of replacing blades and the downtime while making the change becomes far more apparent under harsh, realistic production conditions and so has become a significant purchasing decision when selecting a new machine.

SC packs integrate a host of technical advances that claim to significantly enhance cutting speed, accuracy, finish, control, swarf removal and blade life. The HBM-SC range comprises models for material capacity options of 370mm, 440mm, 540mm and 800mm diameters with ferrous and non-ferrous options available.
