Gene Haas Foundation donates $500,000 for scholarships in Europe
Haas Automation Europe has announced that the Gene Haas Foundation (GHF) will donate an additional $500,000 across 38 schools in 15 European countries.
The money, a gift from Gene Haas, the founder of Haas Automation, will be used to support scholarships in CNC machining and manufacturing. In total, donations by the GHF in Europe since 2015 amount to almost $1 million.
The GHF funds are intended to support students and their parents in paying for tuition fees. The 38 successful schools in 2016 will each receive a share of $407,445. The beneficiaries are located in Belgium, Bosnia, Croatia, France, Greece, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Russia and Ukraine.
The scholarships are administered in collaboration with Haas Automation and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). In Europe, Simon Vanmaekelbergh, Haas Automation Europe’s HTEC and educational partnership coordinator, has managed the project and overseen allocation of the awards.
Mr Vanmaekelbergh commented: “The scholarships are part of Gene Haas’ ongoing engagement in supporting technical education. We believe they will nurture hardworking CNC trainees, helping to ensure a reliable supply of well-trained employees for manufacturing industry across the continent.”
