HB Bearings acquires Gamet

Huddersfield engineering company HB Bearings, which has been manufacturing precision ball and roller bearings since 1972, has acquired Colchester-based Gamet Bearings.

HB serves a variety of customers, from machine tool manufactures to the elite of motorsport in F1 and specialises in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke, low volume, high precision bearings.

Gamet has a global reputation within the industry and shares many characteristics with HB, offering specialist manufacture of low volume, high precision taper roller bearings. The acquisition will therefore expand HB’s product portfolio significantly.

Although HB has been able to support its customers’ taper roller bearing needs, it has never truly been able to offer extensive, design, support and development – until now. HB believes the acquisition of Gamet is a major step forward, enabling the business to offer a variety of solutions from a single source. Moving forward, the rapidly expanding electric vehicle market and performance transmission systems are high on HB’s agenda.

Graham Hirst, HB Bearings’ managing director commented: “This acquisition will dovetail perfectly with our existing capabilities as we look to strengthen our position in the market. We look forward to working with Gamet’s customers and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their patience while we re-locate the manufacturing facility to our site.”

HB is currently expanding the facility at its Huddersfield site and has invested heavily in new machinery.
