Midland Pressure Diecasting (MPD), which employs 65 people across two sites on Ashmore Lake Way in Willenhall, has purchased a Doosan CNC vertical machining centre and new spark eroder to help with growing demand from clients looking to reshore due to quality issues from overseas suppliers.
It comes on the back of securing the UK’s largest vibratory deburring machine as part of the firm’s desire to add a single source solution for its customers, including design, toolmaking, casting and finishing.
Ash Suman, managing director of MPD explained: “The last twelve months have been excellent for the business as we saw new contract wins across automotive, leisure, security and the telecommunications sectors.
“The key driver has been our ability to take on complex parts and deliver quicker than our competitors. This led to many clients choosing to reshore production from international rivals, who were just not getting it right and delivering sub-standard parts.”
He continued: “Over £1 million of orders are in the pipeline and the recent investment will ensure we have the capacity to complete in excess of £5 million in sales by January 2020 – our best ever year since we launched in 2000.”
Midland Pressure Diecasting offers aluminium and zinc high pressure die casting services to customers in batch sizes (ranging from 50 parts to five million) and with components as heavy as 6kg produced at the company’s two facilities spanning a combined 80,000ft².
With work set to increase, the company has just completed the first phase of its new factory layout, which will boost productivity. This has included the movement of heavy plant and machinery to create a better flow of work and the installation of energy efficient lighting.
Mr Suman concluded: “It takes a lot of time, effort and planning to reorganise a facility, but we are already starting to reap the dividends.
“Whilst investment in machinery and infrastructure is important, you also have to look at continually developing your staff and I’m delighted to see one of our apprentices complete his course and secure the assistant production manager role.
“There’s a few more budding engineers coming through the ranks and our HR team are now looking to recruit a maintenance engineer and CNC machine setter to further strengthen our existing workforce.”
