ally interesting piece from Stephanie Flanders who asks the question: 'What would Britain be like without London'?

It would certainly force the Government to rethink its strategies and policies. We'd no longer be a nation so reliant upon the financial sector - which would result in a shift towards other market sectors like, dare I say it, manufacturing!

The Midlands and North are arguably the primary hotspots for manufacturing in the UK - it's certainly where I spend most of my time visiting companies and writing articles for the magazine. With London out of the way, all eyes would be on cities like Birmingham to thrive under the spotlight.

When I visit London, it's hard to spot how the recession has really hit our capital. I understand London did endure a recession of sorts, but it was short lived. Its economy grew by nearly 12.5% between 2007 and 2011 - twice as fast as the rest of the UK.

But a country where economic policy would be set outside Whitehall ... now that is an interesting proposition!
