Sutton Tools celebrates 95 years

Sutton Tools, one of the oldest and largest family owned cutting tools company in the world, is celebrating its 95 year anniversary in 2012.

Whilst technologies have changed over years, the fundamentals of the company's business model have remained constant – ongoing investment in technology and product innovation and a continual focus on its customers' needs. A significant part of that investment is in R&D.

Sutton Tools' development into global markets has been growing steadily over a 20 year period. In Europe, through a new central European warehouse based in Tilburg, Holland, the company has established a firm foothold for developing new business in the European arena.

Two new product ranges will be available to European customers in 2012: the carbide VA Black Magic drills with internal coolant for stainless steel and a new range of Harmony Duo endmills for hard machining.

VA Black Magic drills are designed for reliable, high volume hole making in stainless steel. Accuracy and long tool life is achieved via the low wear, thrust and stable cutting action and 30° helix geometry with optimised flute cores and ‘S' type point gash. The design also incorporates efficient internal coolant supply direct to the cutting edges.

The Helica coating ensures minimal wear at the main cutting edge and margin when compared to conventional coatings. The excellent oxidation resistance and hot hardness of the coating also contribute greatly to stability at the heavily loaded cutting edge corners, while the improved toughness of the multi-layer structure significantly reduces the possibility of cracking.

Sutton Tools' new Harmony Duo range of endmills is manufactured from VHM Ultra micro grain solid carbide with optimised edge conditioning. Featuring 50° flute helix geometry with an innovative dual stepped core design and end teeth gash for enhanced edge strength, the tools are available in AlCrN E562 and Aldura coating E566.
E562 R50-H Duo is suitable for materials up to 48HRC and ideal for pocket milling applications. E566 R50-VH DUO is suitable for the hard machining (post heat treatment) of materials up to 63HRC.
