Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the WNT (UK)/XYZ Machine Tools customer motorcycle track day at Lincolnshire’s Cadwell Park circuit exceeded all expectations, with terrific camaraderie, superb weather and, some fast and exciting track action from customers and instructors alike.

In its first five years the event has gone from strength to strength and now spreads over two days with customers arriving the day before the track day to network, take part in the informative track walk and enjoy the fish and chip supper and a beer or two.

“The evening before is becoming ever more popular, which is great,” said WNT’s Tony Pennington. “The fish and chip shop worked hard to deliver 95 portions, the sun shone and those that walked the circuit got some valuable pointers from the professional instructors, led by Team WNT/Burman Racing’s very own Sam Burman, ahead of the day of hard riding that was to follow.”

The following morning, with scrutineering out of the way, the participants were split into three groups depending on ability and headed out on track under glorious weather provided by Cadwell Park’s very own micro-climate.

Often referred to as a mini Nurburgring, Cadwell Park provided some excellent track time for the near 100 participants with the dry conditions allowing limits to be pushed. An additional bonus this year came through WNT’s partnership with the British Superbike Championship and its organisers Motorsports Vision.

A lucky few experienced a fast lap in the circuit’s safety car

During the lunchtime break lucky participants were treat to a fast, tyre screeching, lap in the circuit’s BMW M-sport safety car, driven by BSB star Peter Hickman. The day isn’t all about fun, though, as WNT (UK)’s Dan Atkinson explained: “This is a great opportunity for customers to get together and network, as well as being one of the major events on the WNT calendar, where we continue to raise significant amounts for our chosen charities the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.”

Held in partnership with XYZ Machine Tools, the event brings together customers from both companies, who combine their passion for motorcycling with a similar enthusiasm for manufacturing.

“This event is fantastic in bringing people with similar attitudes together and many new friendships are developed during the day. I would also like to thank the efforts of the instructors who provided their time and knowledge, which I know is welcomed by all concerned,” concluded Mike Corbett, XYZ’s applications manager.
